About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Mechanical Fitter to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment and machinery to ensure safe and reliable operations.

This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety. Experience working in mining, manufacturing, heavy industry, processing plants, or maintenance environments is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  • Install, align, overhaul, and repair pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, motors, compressors, valves, and other rotating equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Conduct inspections and identify wear, defects, and potential equipment failures.
  • Use precision measuring instruments and fitting tools to ensure equipment operates within specifications.
  • Complete maintenance documentation, work orders, and inspection reports accurately.
  • Support shutdowns, breakdown repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to optimize equipment reliability.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter and Turner, or equivalent recognized trade certification.
  • Proven experience in mechanical maintenance and repair within an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and mechanical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and hazard identification.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience in mining, metals, manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, or heavy industry.
  • Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, or High-Risk Work licences.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience (e.g., SAP, Maximo, Pronto).
  • Forklift, Elevated Work Platform (EWP), or rigging qualifications.
